A promising result for Kiwi tennis professional James Watt qualifing for the big ATP Challenger event at Birmingham in England.
Watt was an alternate into qualifying but in the first round he defeated top-300 ranked
Antoine Ghibaudo of France in straight sets.

He then accounted for Danish player August Holmgren who has a ranking of 156 6-2, 7-5 serving eight aces in the process.
Watt, 25 will face British wildcard Harry Wendelken who has a current ATP ranking of 227 in the main draw of the tournament.
Watt and Finn Reynolds play the top seeds Santiago Gonzalez (Mexico) and Frenchman Sadio Doumbia, both top 50 players in the doubles main draw.
In the women's draw at Birmingham which is a WTA 125 Lulu Sun faces American Maria Stoiana who has a ranking of 146.
At the French Open New Zealand's Erin Routliffe and and Swede André Göransson lost to Asia Muhammad (United States) and Nikola Mektić (Crotia) in the quarters of the mixed doubles 7-5, 4-6, [12-14].
