McCartney takes pole vault silver at Paris

Eliza McCartney was the best of the three New Zealand Commonwealth Games-bound pole vaulters who all finished in the top eight finishes at the Diamond League meet in Paris.
McCartney claimed silver with a best clearance of 4.70m while Imogen Ayris and Olivia McTaggart placed seventh and eighth respecitvely.

Swiss star Angelica Moser won with a best clearance of 4.77m while McCartney headed off a strong challenge Australian Nina Kennedy on a countback.
It was another consistent performanc for former Olympic bronze medallist McCartney, who cleared 4.81m earlier in 2026 and will be aiming for a medal at Glasgow next month.
Ayris cleared a career-best 4.81m this month but reproduce the height in Paris, failing at 4.70m after making 4.60m on the third attempt.
McTaggart missed out at 4.60m, having been untroubled until that point with a best height of 4.45
Meanwhile, fellow Commonwealth Games team member Tori Moorby, finished 10th in the women's javelin in Paris.
Moorby's best distance of 55.89m was more than 4m below her season best.
