More mechanical woes for Kiwi driver Liam Lawson, this time at the Formula One's Canadian Grand Prix.


He was unable to compete in the sprint qualifying after damage to hydraulics from the practice round.

It means Lawson will start the sprint race from the back row after the Racing Bulls car couldn't be fixed sufficiently.


Lawson, 24 admitted it's not going to be an easy weekend.


"I'm going to be playing catch up tomorrow," he said. “It’s a shame, the car looks really good as well. The pace is looking really good, and I felt good as well in the first couple of laps this morning."


Lawson is 10th on the drivers championship table on 10 points.


Mercedes drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli head the grid for the sprint race.


Earlier Alex Albon delayed the practice after colliding with a groundhog and crashing.
