English Premier League football side Tottenham Hotspur have beaten Auckland FC 2-0 in a pre-season friendly at Eden Park in front of over 30,000 fans despite inclement weather leading up to kickoff.


Spurs, on a southern tour that includes two games in Australia, held a 1-0 lead at halftime, and doubled their tally in the second.

The visitors controlled the game early on with Dane Scarlett scoring in the 12th minute from a pinpoint cross from Archie Gray to Manor Solomon who fired a shot which Auckland goalie Michael Woud stopped but couldn't hold and Scarlett pounced.


Auckland had their chances, as a Logan Rogerson pass found Sam Cosgrove late in the half, but goalie Brandon Austin was able to hold out his shot.


Both teams made numerous changes in the second half, with Spurs introducing some of their best talent..


Brazilian forward Richarlison, scored midway through the spell after a brilliant run from Mathys Tel set him up.


The match attracted a crowd of around 40,000 and was a boost for Spurs fans after they just survived Premier League relegation last season.


A-League winners Auckland were eventually outclassed on a wet day, but will find benefits from the game especially with a number of new players taking the pitch. .
