New Zealand driver Liam Lawson has held his starting spot to finish seventh at the Brazil Grand Prix in Sao Paulo .


He finished one place ahead of Racing Bulls teammate Isack Hadjar and ahead of Red Bull rival Yuki Tsunoda (17th).

It was the 23-year-oldsixth finish in the points this season - his first in the past four events - and his third-best finish of the campaign.


The seventh place gives Lawson six points on the drivers ladder and takes him up to 36 and 14th place overall.


McLaren's Lando Norris won the race to extend his Formula 1 drivers championship lead to 24 points after teammate and title rival Oscar Piastri picked up a penalty for causing a collision and finished fifth.


Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli hung on for a career-best second place with Red Bull's Max Verstappen third after starting from the pit lane in another superb performance.


Australian Piastri, who started fourth at Interlagos with sprint winner Norris on pole, had to serve a 10-second penalty for an early clash with Antonelli that put Ferrari's Charles Leclerc out of the race. George Russell was fourth for Mercedes,


The next Grand Prix is Las Vegas 20-22 November.
