A superb drive by Kiwi Liam Lawson has seen him gain his first points of the 2026 F1 season after finishing seventh in the Chinese Grand Prix sprint race.

He had qualified 13th and was cautious about his car ahead of the race saying there was plenty of grit on the track

Using hard tyres for the track saw him do plenty of overtaking moving up to fifth at one stage during the 19 lap race.

Eventually he dropped back to seventh after a late safety car and Kimi Antonelli as well as Oscar Piastri overtaking in faster cars. Lawson now has two points.

Mercedes’ George Russell went from pole to victory as his great start to the year continued after winning the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne last weekend.

Charles LeClerc was second with Lewis Hamilton third and Lando Norris fourth.

Lawson's teammate at Racing Bulls Arvind Lindblad did not finish the race
