Fairweather claims third medal in Glasgow

A fifth medal for New Zealand at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games - the third for Erika Fairweather after claiming silver behind Australian star Lani Pallister in the women's 1500m freestyle.
Fairweather reaming with Pallister for as long as she could, but in the closing stages was more concerned about holding off another Australian, Molly Walker.

Pallister, one of the stars at Glasgow so far, won in 15min 41.03s. Fairweather did extremely well to also touch in under 16 minutes, with 15min 58.97s. Walker finished 2.4 seconds after the New Zealander.
The 1500m silver is now added to Fairweather's silver in the 400m freestyle and bronze in the 200m freestyle. And that's not to forget she also anchored the mixed 100m freestyle relay team to a fourth place.
She had never won a Commonwealth Games medal before arriving in Glasgow. Well, she has certainly put that issue to bed.
Fairweather was thrilled with her own performance. 'I'm super happy, super stoked! Lani’s always going to be hard to catch,' she said. 'It's a new event for me. I was just concentrating on staying consistent with my splits. I'm very pleased to get this result.'
There were two other New Zealanders in the 1500m race. Caitlin Deans finished a creditable fifth in 16min 08.62s, a personal best time, and Eve Thomas was eighth in 16min 29.63s.
