Black Caps beaten in first ODI by West Indies

New Zealand have dropped the first game of the ODI series against the West Indies with a seven wicket defeat in Guyana.
Put into bat the Black Caps made 267 all out with one ball to be bowled. In reply the home side scored 268-3 with seven balls spare.

New Zealand had been 234 for 4 in the 44th over but lost their last six wickets for 33 as Alzarri Joseph finished with 4 for 41 and Vitel Lawes, the left-arm wristspinner who had not played at senior level in any format took 3-54.
Henry Nicholls made 27 in the opening stand of 80 with Will Young (49) before Mark Chapman made 27 from 26 balls.
Daryl Mitchell was his usual measuered self top-scoring on 65 from 73 balls while Tom Latham, Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner all scored in the 20's but couldn't go on.
Nathan Smith, Jacob Duffy, Matthew Fisher and Jayden Lennox all failed to reach double figures.
Duffy couldn't find his line early on finishing with figures of 1-52 from seven overs while Lennox had 1-55 from 10 and Bracewell took the other wicket as Keacy Carty smashed 95 runs including 10 fours and two sixes.
Windies captain Shai Hope was 87 not out with four fours and four sixes while Sherfane Rutherford reamined unbeate on 22.
The second game of the series is on Tuesday.
