Starting the day with a one-shot lead at 12-under, following a five-under 65 in the second round on Friday, Campbell managed a bogey-free two-under 68 as a number of golfers surged into contention with low scores.
Campbell, who hit 12-of-14 fairways and 14-of-18 greens in regulation, made birdies at the seventh and 11th holes but had a number of other birdie opportunities not fall at the Hong Kong Country Club.
LIV Golf star Patrick Reed was the story of day three, posting just the second 59 in Asian Tour history, with a bogey-free 11-under to take a three-shot lead.
Campbell, the defending champion in Hong Kong, will tee off his final round in the penultimate group at 11.26am local time (4.26pm NZT).
Ko was shuffled from a tie for fifth after the opening round to a share of 21st after a two-over 74 in the second round at the LPGA's season-ending tournament in Naples, Florida.
The world No 4 got to six-under with a birdie at the par-five first but things went downhill for the rest of the front-nine, with bogeys at the third, fifth and eighth holes. She finished with 10 straight pars.
At three-under, Ko trailed the leader, American Angel Yin, by seven strokes, needing a big third round to get into contention.
At the Australian PGA Championship in Brisbane, DP World Tour pro Daniel Hillier made a big move in the rain-delayed second round, level with Kazuma Kobori and Denzel Ieremia as the leading Kiwis.
After play was abandoned on Friday due to a rain-soaked course at the Royal Queensland Golf Club, with the tournament reduced to 54 holes for the first time, Hillier went low to move up the leaderboard.
Hillier fired a four-under 68, featuring seven birdies and three bogeys, to rise from a share of 52nd into a tie for 17th.
Joining him at five-under, five shots behind co-leaders Cam Smith and Elvis Smylie, were compatriots Kobori and Ieremia, who both posted three-under 68s. Kobori had four birdies and a bogey, Ieremia six birdies and three bogeys.
Also making the cut was Kerry Mountcastle (three-under, T36) after a four-under 67, featuring six birdies and two bogeys, and Nick Voke (two-under, T49) following a one-over 72, with three birdies and four bogeys.
Sam Jones (one-over, T97), James Hydes (two-over, T107), Josh Geary (four-over, T127), following a disastrous five-over 76 in round two, and Tyler Wood (six-over, T139) all missed the cut.
