A record partnership wasn’t enough for the Auckland Aces in a high-scoring Super Smash contest to the Canterbury Kings at Hagley Oval.


Black Caps short-form player Bevon Jacobs smashed 88 from 45 balls as he and Cam Fletcher put on 171-runs from just 93 balls in the highest fifth-wicket stand in Super Smash history.

However, the Aces came up 17 runs short at 199-4 of Canterbury’s 216-6 total.


Earlier the Kings top-five all scored 20 runs or more as Rhys Mariu 43 made Tom Latham 55, Matt Boyle 52 and Cole McConchie 20 not out.


An gus Oliver, Ryan Harrison and Harjot Jahal all tooktwo wickets each.


The women's match saw the Auckland Hearts easily dispatch the Magicians by 80 runs.


Batting first the Hearts made 171-6 with Brooke Halliday hitting 62 from 47 including eight fours.


At bat Canterbury made 91 all out in the final over. Izzy Sharp made almost half of the Magicians runs 42, but no one else could muster more than 15


Molly Penfold took 3-20 and Bree Illing 2-10 from their respective four overs.
