Athletics and snow sports are the big winners in the nominees for the 63rd Halberg Awards dominating the list of names for the February event in Auckland.
World champions Geordie Beamish and Hamish Kerr have been nominated for sportsman of the year among a wide variety of sports and athletes.
LATEST HEADLINES:
Beamish, the 3,000m steeplechase gold medal winner at this year's track and field world championships in Tokyo, and Kerr, the high jump Olympic champion and world champion, will both have strong claims for the ultimate New Zealand sporting recognition.
A couple of Kiwi athletes who didn't make the list inlcude triathlete Hayden Wilde and jockey James McDonald, both world champions.
There are 14 nominations for sportsman of the year, including Freeski Big Air world champion Luca Harrington; footballer Chris Wood and golfer Ryan Fox for his two victories on the PGA Tour.
Selected by a panel of former elite athletes, coaches, sports administrators, and media representatives, the finalists were chosen from 59 nominations recognising outstanding achievements from December 1, 2024 to November 30, 2025.
The winners will be announced at the ceremony at Spark Arena on Monday, February 16.
