World Rugby's 15s breakthrough player of the year is aiming to join the Blues from round two of this year's Super Rugby Aupiki competition.
Braxton Sorensen-McGee has recommitted to New Zealand Rugby and the Black Ferns Sevens through to the end of 2027, with the exciting new two-year extension set to support her ambitions across both sevens and fifteens.
The new deal ensures Sorensen-McGee’s primary focus will be with the Black Ferns Sevens, while also allowing her to pursue opportunities with the Black Ferns in 2026 as well as well Super Rugby Aupiki and the O’Reilly Cup Test against Australia in Auckland in August.
Other opportunities will include an historic clash against the Springbok Women’s team in Johannesburg in September, October’s three-Test home series against France and an end of year Northern tour.
Sorensen-McGee said she was grateful for the opportunity to continue growing her game in both formats.
“I’ve been loving my first season with the Black Ferns Sevens and the opportunity to play on the world series with my sevens’ sisters. This environment has helped me grow so much as a player and as a person, and I’m excited about what’s still ahead.
“But I’ve also set some goals in fifteens and feel like I’ve got more to offer in the Blues and Black Ferns jerseys. I’m looking forward to challenging myself in both formats and doing everything I can to contribute to those teams.”
