The opening game of the Super Smash season has ended with a no result, however it did didsplay some big hitting by an in-form New Zealand player.


Auckland made 201-8 against NortherN Districts at Seddon Park with Black Caps short-form player Bevon Jacobs top-scoring at a rapid rate late in his for 55 runs.


LATEST HEADLINES:


The 23-year-old hit four sixes and three fours in his innings which took 31 balls. Twenty-year-old Lachlan Stackpole made 46 from 23 balls including four sixes and four fours.


At the top of the innings Dale Phillips put on 33 from 21 balls while Martin Guptill had a short stay at the crease with three runs from five balls. Captain Sean Solia was the next-best on the scoreboard with 16 along with extras on the same score.


The best of the ND bowlers was Tim Pringle with 2-31 from four overs and Zak Gibson 2-25 from three.


Matthew Fisher, Scott Keggeleijn and Brett Hampton all took a wicket each.


The women's match between ND and Auckland was called off after 2.2 overs with Auckland 8-1 before consistent rain fell.


Day two of the competition has Central Districts hosting Wellington in a double-header at Fitzherbert Park in Palmerston North.


The men's game with the CD Hinds against the Stags at 12.40 followed by the men's game as the Central Stags play the Wellington Firebirds.
