White Ferns and Auckland Hearts off spinner Fran Jonas has withdrawn from the upcoming Super Smash competition to prioritise time on making technical changes to her bowling.
Jonas was ruled out of the recent North v South series last week and has received full support from NZC and Auckland Cricket to withdraw from the Super Smash competition to work on the necessary bowling changes.
LATEST HEADLINES:
Jonas will work on a bowling plan over the next six weeks, with the plan to return to play during the second half of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield competition in February.
NZC Head of Women’s High Performance Liz Green said it was the right decision for Jonas.
“Taking some time away from the pressures of in-match cricket is what’s best for Fran at this point in time,” said Green.
“Fran is an integral part of the White Ferns programme’s plans and she has the full support of NZC and Auckland Cricket as she works through the changes.
“Fran deserves huge credit for the maturity she has shown in making this decision and we know she will benefit from the time away to focus on herself.”
The Auckland Hearts begin their Super Smash campaign in the competition opener against the Northern Brave at Seddon Park on Boxing Day.
