After a mid-year stretch of playing in Europe, including the Paris Olympics and Open Championship, Fox returned to the PGA Tour for four tournaments, hoping to collect enough points to keep him safe.
A tie for 11th at the Sanderson Farms Championship was likely enough, boosting him two spots to 104th. But after finishing T46 at the Black Desert Championship in Utah, T34 at the Shriners Children's Open in Las Vegas and T65 in Japan, Fox had slipped back to 108th.
Fox posted three top-10 results on the PGA Tour - T4 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in April, T4 at the Myrtle Beach Classic in May and T7 at the Canadian Open in June.
To start the season, he missed the cut at five of his first eight tournaments, but only missed the weekend twice the rest of the way, 17-of-24 overall. He won almost US$1.4 million from 24 tournaments.
Ranked 28th in the world starting 2024, the Aucklander dealt with a hip injury throughout the year, steadily falling to 81st on Monday.
Fox will have to improve in 2025 to remain on the PGA Tour, with full exempt status from 2026 offered to just the top-100 golfers.
