Also through to the semi finals are the women's pair of Juliette Lequeux and Katie Lush, despite only finishing fourth in their heat.
There were good signs too for the men's coxless four, who have just one rower back from last year's World Championships team.
Campbell Crouch has been joined by Fred Vavasour, Harry Fitzpatrick and Josh Vodanovich, and they sealed a semi-final spot, finishing second in their heat behind current world champions Great Britain.
Two other crews, the women's coxless four and the the women's quad are straight through to A finals, after both finished second in their heats.
The coxless four consists of Alana Sherman, Isla Blake, Kate Haines and Ella Cossill, while Stella Clayton-Greene, Olivia Hay, Beckie Leigh and Veronica Wall are in the women's quad
