Moana Pasifika safe for the 2026 SRP season

The 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season is all go for Moana Pasifika after investigates gave it the seal of approval to continue its plans for the future.
Fresh off the back of their most successful season in 2025, Moana Pasifika were part of an independent review into parent organisation Pasifika Medical Association Group (PMA).

The review was commissioned by Te Puni Kōkiri and found no evidence that Whānau Ora commissioning funds were spent to support the professional rugby programme — reinforcing Moana Pasifika’s commitment to accountability and integrity.
Moana Pasifika Chief Executive, Debbie Sorensen ONZM, says the future is bright for the club:
“Moana Pasifika is on a clear, forward path,” she said. “Our partnerships are active, our programmes are expanding, and we are well-positioned for long-term delivery. We are committed to listening, acting, and maintaining confidence.”
New Zealnad Rugby Chair David Kirk MBE was happy with the result and wished the club well for the new season.
“NZR notes the pleasing outcome of the review by Te Puni Kōkiri into the use of government funds by Pasifika Futures and looks forward to Moana Pasifika’s continued involvement in Super Rugby Pacific next season.”
Moana Pasifika are away to the Fijian Drua in the opening round of the 2026 competition on Saturday 14 February.
