New Zealand Olympian Sammie Maxwell claimed third place in the final UCI MTB World Cup race of the year at Lake Placid in the United States racing in Decathlon Ford colours,


The 24-year-old from Taupo led into the final lap and battled to the line before securing her first World Cup podium since returning to competition two months ago.

“The legs and the brain felt so good. It was just like old Sammie – strong, confident and present in the now,” she said.


Maxwell was the fastest rider on three of the eight laps and was delighted with her efforts which provides confidence for next year and her build-up to the LA28.


Fellow Kiwi Sam Gaze was unfortunately unable to finish his race (DNF)
