New Zealand golfer Dame Lydia Ko carded an even-par 71 in her first round at the Chevron Championship, the first major of the 2026 LPGA season.


A winner of the tournament 10 years earlier , Ko is five shots off the leaders at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston.

Three-time major winner Ko, opened with a birdie at the first hole before dropping a shot at the fourth. She bogeyed the 13th, but then birdied the 15th to get her round back to par even.


Thailand's Patty Tavatanakit, the 2021 champion, shares the lead with Korea’s Somi Lee at five-under.


At the DP World Tour’s China Open, New Zealand Open champion Daniel Hillier scored a three-under 68 with countryman Kazuma Kobori tied 34 a shot back at 69 at Shanghai Enhance Anting GC.


Hillier is tied 19th after he bogeyed the second, but then had a birdie and another in the next two shots. There were also birdies on the seventh, eighth and 10th holes. However a bogey on the 18th prevented Hillier from a surge up the leaderboard.


Spain’s Alejandro Del Rey leads at 10-under 61 including six birdies on the front nine.
