He completed 55 laps - 27 in session one and 28 in session two.
Afterwards Lawson told the F1 website that he was pleased with his efforts.
“It’s a solid start to the weekend, it’s been very close on track, similar to last weekend. We need to keep chasing just like everyone else, but it’s a good starting place,” Lawson said.
“We’ve been making small changes between sessions and fine-tuning the setup. The wind is really gusty right now and it’s throwing off the balance, but the car feels incredibly quick.
“It’s my first time driving here in a Formula One car, and it’s an amazing experience.”
Lando Norris set the fastest time across the two practice sessions, leading Ferrari's Charles Leclerc by 0.222 seconds in the second session. Lewis Hamilton was third, Oscar Piastri was fourth, with Max Verstappen fifth.
Lawson finished sixth at last weekend's Austrian Grand Prix his best finish of his Formula 1 career.
