After starting all but one of the women’s matches during the 2024-25 season, injury limited Jaber to just six substitute appearances during the team’s record-breaking campaign that followed.

The Nix have agreed to release her from the remaining year of her contract so both parties can explore other options.

Phoenix head coach Bev Priestman has thanked Jaber for her contribution to the club.

“Tiana’s been a big part of this team,” Priestman said. “We couldn’t have achieved what we did last season without her.

“She’s a winner and helped ensure the training standards remained high every day.

“We’re sad to see Tiana go but we wholeheartedly support her decision to leave the club in order to get more gametime, which is crucial for an international player.

“She’ll be welcomed back into our environment if she returns to Wellington as she’s a great character and has been a pleasure to work with.

“We wish her all the best.”

Jaber has had good memories of hte past couple of years.

“My time at the Nix was incredible,” Jaber said. “I’m honoured to have worn yellow for the past three seasons and to have represented Wellington and New Zealand.

“But the time for change has come. Thank you to the club and the best fans for everything.

“My time at the Phoenix will always remain a special part of my career.”

The Wellington Phoenix still have 14 women’s players contracted for the 2026-27 Ninja A-League season, with further squad announcements to follow in the coming weeks.
