The Hurricanes have confirmed that new All Blacks prop Siale Lauaki has extended his contract with the side through until 2029.

A highly-touted product of the Hurricanes’ development programme, confirmation of Lauaki’s contract extension follows his recent All Blacks debut against the Stormers during the side’s tour of South Africa two months ago.

The 23-year-old’s new deal, which comes a year after his last contract extension, means he joins Tyrel Lomax and Cam Roigard in committing to the Hurricanes through to 2029.

"I’m grateful to be with this club and to be part of the Hurricanes family,” Lauaki said.

“The club has given me so many opportunities and I’m looking forward to doing my best to make the most of this latest opportunity over the next few years.”

Long heralded as a standout prospect who can play on both sides of the scrum, Lauaki has played 17 matches for the Hurricanes since his 2024 debut against the Fijian Drua, featuring 13 times in this year’s Super Rugby Pacific title-winning campaign.

Prior to that, the Wellington local rose through the club’s age-grade system, featuring for both the Hurricanes U18 and U20 sides, as well as the New Zealand Schools and New Zealand U20 teams, between 2020 and 2023.

He made his NPC debut for Wellington while still a teenager in 2022 and has claimed two national titles and the Ranfurly Shield with the Lions.

Lauaki’s international potential was first recognised last year when he was included in the All Blacks XV squad and played all three matches of their European tour against the Barbarians, England A, and Uruguay.

Maiden selection in the All Blacks followed in July, and he went on to play three matches for the national side throughout the South African tour.

Hurricanes head coach Clark Laidlaw is thrilled to have secured Lauaki’s services for a further two years as he joins Lomax, Xavier Numia, Pasilio Tosi, and newly-signed Rohan Wingham in the club’s cohort of props next season.

"It’s obviously huge news for us and for him,” Hurricanes head coach Clark Laidlaw said.

“He’s a player who has developed extremely well here over the past few years through the work he’s been doing with our coaches.

“The maturity of being able to play both sides of the scrum at such a young age in Super Rugby, and then to be selected for the All Blacks on their tour of South Africa, is something he'll be hugely proud of.

“He’ll continue to be highly motivated to try and make All Blacks moving forward, and it’s great to have consistency in the front row, which is a strong area of our team.

“Siale’s an amazing player with a great skill set, loves defending, and is ever improving in the set piece. It’s excellent news for us that he’s committed long-term and we look forward to his continued growth as a Hurricane.”
