Ameliaranne Ekenasio who will reunite with the Pulse for the 2026 ANZ Premiership netball season.

After switching her allegiance from Australia to New Zealand in 2014, Ekenasio made Wellington her home while going on to forge a stellar career with the Pulse between 2015 and 2020, across both the former trans-Tasman league and current ANZ Premiership.

That included winning the 2019 and 2020 titles with the Pulse before heading in a new direction and spending the last four years with the Magic.

And now she’s back, the mum of two savouring the comforts of having a permanent home base, the opportunity to enjoy a more relaxed family life and the extra time to concentrate on her own game.

``I am happy to be returning home,’’ Ekenasio said. ``I’m just looking forward to having my feet on the ground and in one place, so to have the opportunity to be settled and have the support of our family is important.

``The Pulse are a proud club and have a really great training set-up, so I’m just looking forward to going to work, that’s when I’m at my best. Being able to have my family settled and at home will be a game-changer. I’m just looking forward to that, it’s a bit of a return really to where my career kicked off, so that’s exciting.’’

With 129 national league matches under her belt, Ekenasio, 34, is a vastly experienced campaigner who adds a dynamic presence at the attack end. With a spectacular high-arching shot, the elegant Ekenasio is a fine mover and ball-handler, sets up play expertly and is a confident long-range shooter.

A proven performer, Ekenasio has a strong work ethic which she hopes will rub off and inspire those around her in a new-look Pulse team.

``I think the best I can commit to is leading by example,’’ she said. ``I know what it takes to win and to be a high performing athlete and I really love the preparation for that. Once I’m committed to something the obsession with preparation really begins.

``I’ve put my body and mind through it and I enjoy pushing people around me to be better every day. It’s something about seeing people push through some of the hardest trainings - it’s where you see what people are made of and the character they have.’’

The Zone couldn’t be happier to welcome the return of Ekenasio to the Pulse fold and the dynamic she will add.

``We’re delighted Ameliaranne is returning to her home base and the Pulse,’’ Netball Central Director of High Performance Waimarama Taumaunu said.

``She is a quality player who will add tremendous value through her experience, preparation and professionalism. Back at home and with a fresh challenge, we’re expecting Ameliaranne to thrive in the environment.’’
