Another Hurricanes player has signed a contract extension with hooker Jacob Devery staying on for the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season.

A member of this year’s title-winning side, Devery is excited to enter his sixth season with the Hurricanes.

“I’m grateful to re-sign with the Hurricanes for 2027,” Devery said. “I always feel very proud and privileged every time I get the opportunity to represent this club and I can’t wait to get underway again next year.”

Born and raised in Hawke’s Bay, Devery is a product of the club’s pathways system, having represented the Hurricanes’ age-grade sides during and after his time at Hastings Boys’ High School.

The 28-year-old hooker went on to make his NPC debut with Hawke’s Bay in 2021. He has now played more than half a century of matches for the Magpies and helped the province claim the Ranfurly Shield in 2023.

Devery’s Hurricanes debut came against the Crusaders in 2022 and has since made 25 appearances for the club. He played eight times for the Hurricanes this year and featured off the bench in the club’s historic Grand Final win over the Chiefs.

Internationally, Devery has also earned Māori All Blacks selection, playing three times for the team over the past two years.

"Jacob is an integral part of both Hawke’s Bay and the Hurricanes. He’s now developed into a leader in Hawke’s Bay and a strong, consistent professional who we can really rely on here at the Hurricanes,” Hurricanes head coach Clark Laidlaw said.

“To have him with his experience part of that front row crew, alongside Asafo and Vernon and Raymond, is a real plus for us as a club and gives us huge depth and players with different skill sets and abilities.

“We expect him to continue to get better and play well in the future. To have him as part of our four hookers in next year's squad is really encouraging.”
