Auckland FC lose Danny Hall to Japan role

Another departure from Auckland FC with assistant coach Danny Hay leaving to join former head coach Steve Corica at Yokohama F Marinos in Japan.
The two coaches made for an impressive partnership at Auckland FC, winning both the A-League Premiership and Championship trophies in just two seasons.

The former All White’s coach departs with the club’s best wishes after two highly successful seasons at the club.
“Danny was a fantastic influence on the players and together with Steve formed an impressive, title-winning partnership,” said Auckland FC CEO Nick Becker.
“Their skills and personalities complemented each other, so it is really no surprise they have made the decision to go together to experience this new chapter in Japan.
“Danny has been fantastic for the club and the city, and he goes with our best wishes. He will always be welcome back at Go Media Stadium.”
The 51-year-old Auckland-born Hay also enjoyed an impressive playing career, joining Premier League side Leeds United in 1999.
“Being an Auckland boy certainly helped when it came to bringing through those younger players, he showed the pathway that was possible and the attitude that was needed,” added Becker.
Hay described his experience at Auckland FC as one of the highlights of his career.
“Returning to Auckland to support the establishment of the club was a real honour. Together, what we achieved, and I include the fans and the city in that, was incredible and personally one of the highlights of my career,” says Hay.
“When we first set up the club, we wanted to ensure we were competitive, but to go on and win two trophies was way beyond my expectations.
“Thank you to everyone who made it possible and all the fans who came out to support us.”
Becker is confident that a new coaching team to replace Corica and Hay will be in place ahead of the team’s fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, 26th July.
