Unseeded at the start of the week, Shepp’s first professional tournament at home turned into a dream run.
The 23-year-old who had played at the University of Nebraska beat top seed Christian Langmo from the United States in the semi finals 7-6, 7-5 before accounting for third seed Tai Sach of Australia 6-2, 7-6(10).
“It’s a dream come true to win my first pro title in front of a home crowd,” said Shepp. “I went to school two minutes from here and lived just down the road.”
Previously Shepp's best result was reaching the quarter of the ITF tournament in Tauranga in 2023.
He has two doubles titles to his name.
The World Tennis Tour continues this week with the EVES Open World Tennis Tour Tauranga running 15-21 December at Papamoa Tennis Club.
