A third season-final title on the PGA Seniors Tour has escaped New Zealand golfer Steve Alker


He gave up top spot in the standings to Stewart Cink after finishing two shots behind the American at the season-ending Charles Swhwab Cup Championship at the Phoenix Country Club.

The 2009 British Open winner took out the event on 20-under par, two clear of second-placed Alker.


Cink carded a final round 70 including four birdies and no blemishes.


Alker had an inconsistent final round 70, his worst of the of the tournament.


He birdied the sixth and seventh holes, but bogeyed the eighth, 10th and 12th before birdies at the 13, 15 and 16th.


He finished the round with a bogey on the 18th par five, with a six shot finish.


Alker, 54 who hails from Hamilton who won the season crown in 2022 and 2024 and pockets a consolation prize of more than half a million dollars.
