Women take bronze, men fourth 3x3 basketball

The ups and downs of sport on the final day of 3x3 basketball at Glasgow 2026 - the women's team won a bronze, but the men had to settle for fourth.
The women's team - Eva Langton, Sharne Pupuke-Robati, Azure Anderson and Ella Fotu - having been beaten outplayed 20-12 by Uganda in their semi-final, bounced back to beat Jamaica 18-13 in the bronze medal match.

The men - Aidan Tonge, Josh Book, Te Tuhi Lewis and Christian Martin went down 21-16 to England in a tough, bruising encounter in the semis, then were edged out by Scotland 18-16, and so missed out on a medal.
The women came unstuck against Uganda, who passed better and had a simple and effective game plan. However, the New Zealanders were generally much more composed against Jamaica. They started poorly and were down 6-1. They then led 9-7 and it was soon 12-12. From there, the New Zealanders had their noses in front all the way to the finish.
By contrast the men played much better in their earlier game. England were a rugged, organised unit, but New Zealand played them shot for shot until it was 16-16. The last couple of minutes belonged to England and that was that.
Against Scotland, the New Zealand men managed just 16 successful shots out of 31 and worse, two two-points from 14 attempts. Scotland had zero two-pointers and preferred to work their way to the basket and accumulate one-pointers.
