Another title for Erin Routliffe, this time the seventh of her career and her first at WTA 1000 level, with a three-set victory in Cincinnati.

The world No 1 and current US Open champion won the Cincinnati Open with American Asia Muhammad, defeating Canadian Leylah Fernandez and Kazkh Yulia Putinseva for the title.

In another lengthy encounter, Routliffe and Muhammad won 3-6 6-1 10-4 in 1 hour, 20 minutes to give her a second title for 2024 (Nottingham was the first) and put her in good stead for the US Open just a week away.

In the Cincinnati final, both combinations teams struggled to convert break points, with Routliffe and Muhammad winning just two of 12 they had, while Fernandez and Putinseva were one from 10.

The victory gives 29-year-old Routliffe around $140,000 in prizemoney and also helps put her in good standing for the year-end championship.
