Racing for the Red Bull development team, Lawson gave Perez a middle finger, after fending off his attempt to pass during the Mexico Grand Prix, leading to a talking-to from team boss Christian Horner afterwards.

Perez is under pressure to retain his seat in 2025, with Lawson and Racing Bulls teammate Yuki Tsunoda challenging strongly. The Japanese driver was 15th in the sprint race.

Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri was told to let teammate Lando Norris have victory for a McLaren one-two with just a couple of laps remaining. Max Verstappen was third but then relegated for fourth on a penalty.

Qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix was postponed after heavy rain made the track unusable. Qualifying will be held on the morning of the main race (Monday NZT), although weather could again be wet.
