The Black Caps were 171 for 9 in their second innings at stumps, a lead of just 143 runs and potentially looking at a test defeat.

Will Young top-scored with 51, while Glenn Phillips, Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell all made scores in the 20's but weren't able to continue their innings.

Indian spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin combined for seven wickets and had the New Zealanders struggling.


Earlier India had scored 263 all out for a first innings lead of 28 - with Ajaz Patel taking five wickets. Shubman Gill making 90 and Rishabh Pant 60.


Patel and Will O'Rourke will be at the crease for the Black Caps to start day three.
