Veteran Josh Geary leads the Tauranga Open loing into the weekend's play on the Charles Tour by two shots after another steady round for the 40-eyar-old.


Geary underlined his credentials as defending champion on with a composed four-under 66 to extend his lead and move four clear of the chasing pack heading into the weekend.

Forty-year-old Geary sits at 12-under four shots ahead of New Plymouths Domic Barson and Yuki Miya.


James Hydes battled through a rollercoaster round, offsetting a shaky start to his back nine with a strong finish to sit tied fourth at six-under. Jayden Ford from Royal Wellington also sits at six-under.


Fresh from his breakthrough win at the Mount Open, 17-year-old Cooper Moore carried steady form into Tauranga, posting three-under with just a single bogey in the first round and a two-under after his second round at in a tie for 16th,


The biggest leap came from George Hodgson, who erased his opening 71 with a brilliant six-under 64 to climb 20 places, while Ricky Gyeom of Korea also rebounded,


The women’s field remains wide open, with just four shots separating first from 11th. Amy Tang staged one of the biggest turnarounds of the day, bouncing back from a six-over opening round to shoot level par in round two and post an early clubhouse lead.


Faith Vui built on her solid start with a three-shot improvement to sit second heading into the weekend. With only two strokes separating the top five, and constant movement across the opening rounds.
