White Ferns thrashed by England in first ODI

England have demolished the White Ferns by nine wickets in their opening ODI international in Durham.


After winning the toss and electing to bat first New Zealand were bowled out in the 34th over for just 156.

Brooke Halliday top scored with 51 after openers Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer had scored16 and 29 respectively.


Amelia Kerr went for 10 and along the way surpassed 3000th career runs while captain Sophie Devine batting down the order was out for 13.


Halliday's 51 was the only bright light featuring seven fours and one six and come from 60 balls.


From then on the innings fell apart as only Izzy Gaze and Jess Jerr making doubles figures.


England reached their target in the 22nd over with Tammy Beaumont and Maia Bouchier putting on 137 for the opening wicket.

England spinner Charlie Dean finished with 4-38 and Sophie Ecclestone 2-28.


The England batters had few problems against the New Zealand attack with Beaumont's 76 coming off 69 balls and Bouchier's 67 off 50 balls.


Devine tried seven bowlers with Haillday picking up the only wicket.


Game two of the three match ODI series is in Worcester on Sunday night.
