Former Swifts Premiership winner and decorated Silver Ferns international Katrina Rore has been recruited by the Club as a Temporary Replacement for the injured Sarah Klau.

A Suncorp Super Netball champion with the Swifts in 2019, the former New Zealand captain is providing defensive cover with Klau currently rehabbing a quad injury.

Rore (nee Grant) will be in the Swifts’ team for Saturday’s Heritage Round game with the Melbourne Vixens at Ken Rosewall Arena (5pm).

Swifts Head Coach Briony Akle welcomed Rore back to the environment.

“We delighted to welcome Katrina back to the Swifts as cover while Sarah gets back to full fitness.

“Katrina did an amazing job for us in 2019 when Kate Eddy went down and her accomplishments in the game need no introduction.

“Like Sarah, Katrina is a world-class defender and a Premiership and World Cup champion. Recently she’s been playing a very high level of Club netball in Brisbane, so I know she’s ready to step back into the elite level because her class is permanent.”

Akle also provided an update on Klau’s recovery.

“Luckily, Sarah’s injury is not long-term and Katrina is only coming in to cover our Vixens game at this stage.

“However, we have to ensure that Sarah is fully fit before she takes the court again. We’ll do an assessment next week to see if she’s ready to face the Firebirds in Round 6.

“It’s a massive year for Sarah, not just for the Swifts but also for the Australian Diamonds so we won’t get her on court her until she’s fully right.”
