New Zealand's Lulu Sun has been drawn against Camila Osorio from Colombia in the first round at the US Open in New York starting on Monday (NZT)


Sun, 24 who has a current WTA ranking of 102 needs a victory in the opening round to bring her ranking back inside the top 100,

However Sun has just a few points to defend in the last few months of the year starting in New York.


Osorio, 23 is ranked 57 in the world and is a former US Open junior champion, but she has never progressed beyond the second round in the women’s draw in New York


The pair have never faced each other in WTA singles play.


The winner of the match will play either Elise Mertens and Alyssa Ahn in the second round


Last year Sun arrived in New York having made the final at Monterrey and was clearly injured in her first round loss to Italian Lucia Bronzetti 6-3 retired
