After that first an pset looked possible as Shi broke the Kiwi’s serve twice and was playing a level of tennis beyond her ranking.
However Shi didn't won another game, as Sun rattled through the sets to complete the match in just over an hour and a half.
Sun dominated with her first serve, winning 81.6% of the points on it, but she didn’t make the same impression with her second serve, with that percentage dropping down to 35.7.
This was the fourth time this year Sun has come back to win a match after losing the opening set.
In the second round Sun will face the winner of the match between Li Xiaowei from China and the Netherlands’ Arianne Hartono.
