New Zealand's Lulu Sun has made the direct entry list for next months Australian Open with a WTA ranking of 90.


After seeing her ranking drop below 140 Sun, 24 had a strong finish to the year with a finals appearance at the WTA Guangzhou Open from qualifying and also winning a $125 WTA tournaments at Jingshan, China.

The Te Anau-born player has competed in the Australian Open main draw on two occasions, 2025 as a New Zealander and 2024 as a Swiss national, losing in the first round both times.


Sun will use the ASB Classic 5-11 January as a warm up tournament.


The cut-off for the direct entries in women's singles at the Australian Open is Frenchwoman Leolia JeanJean ranked 103 while all of the women's top-10 have entered as Aryna Sabalenka targets her third Australian Open title.


Other New Zealander who will play at the tournament include Erin Routliffe with Asia Muhammed in the women's doubles while Finn Reynolds and James Watt should make the men's doubles draw direct entry.


Michael Venus will not play as a result of recovery from surgery on his arm.


The men's entry list has a last direct entry at Thiago Agustin Tirante from Argentina with a ranking of 101.


Carlos Alcaraz is No 1 on the rankings, Jannik Sinner is second followed by Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic.
