New Zealand golfer Ryan Fox is inside the top-20 after a solid first round at the PGA Tour's Byron Nelson Open in Texas.


Fox is five-under, three shots off the lead after a first round where he birdied the second, fifth, sixth, ninth, 13th and 18th holes.

He had just one blemish in his round on the par three fourth hole but that was it in his round of 66.


Thirty-year-old Fox is tied-19th along with over a dozen others.


American Scottie Scheffler leads at 10-under highlighted by a three on the par-five ninth hole.


Meanwhile on the LPGA Tour at the Black Desert Championship in Utah Fiona Xu is well down the order at two-over after a first round which featured six birdies but four bogeys and two double bogeys.
