Fairweather third fastest into 200m final

New Zealand's Erika Fairweather has bounced back from her shock disqualification in the 400m freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships to reach the final of the 200m freestyle.


Competing in Singapore, Fairweather won her heat to qualify as the fastest swimmer into the semifinals in an impressive time of 1:56.54 seoconds.

In the semi, Fairweather dug deep in a tight race, finishing third behind Claire Weinstein (USA – 1:54.69) and marginally behind O’Callaghan (1:55.49).


The North Shore swimmer, Fairweather clocked a time of 1:55.52s, the fourth best time of her career and just 0.08s outside the New Zealand record which she set in April 2023.and third into the final


Lewis Clareburt (Club 37) contested the men’s 200m butterfly and qualified a spot in the semifinal with a time of 1:56.35s.


The 26-year-old then touched the wall in 1:55.24s to set a new personal best. The time saw him narrowly miss out on the final, placing 10th overall.


“It’s been three years since I clocked that personal best so I’m extremely happy,” said Clareburt. “It obviously would have been great to get into that final but it gives me confidence moving forward.”
