New Zealand squash player Paul Coll has won the PSA Silver title in Cleveland on his first visit to the event.

World No 2 Coll beat second seed Leonel Cardenas from Mexico in straight games to capture the Squash in the Land 2026 title.

Coll dropped one game during the tournament for his 30th title on the PSA Squash Tour.

Cardenas, who won the event in 2024, stood toe-to-toe with Coll in the first two games which were both physical battles. However it was the New Zealander who was able to hold his nerve when it mattered most to close out the first 11-7.

After a physical 21-minute opener, the Mexican had his opportunities to restore parity in the second game but saw two game ball chances saved by Coll. The Kiwi squandered one game ball opportunity of his own, but converted in the tiebreak to go 2-0 up.

The 24-minute second game looked to have taken its toll on Cardenas, as Coll was too sharp in the third to close it out 11-4 and seal the title.

“I’ve seen the event here in Cleveland for many years and the way it has grown into a Silver event, with a full glass court, it’s awesome. I’ve loved it here this week," he said.

“One of the coolest things about squash is going to towns and getting that real sense of community and welcoming. I’ve had a great week in Cleveland.”

Meanwhile New Zealand's Ollie Dunbar has won the PSA Challenger in Edmonton, Canada beating second seed Alfredo Alvira Verga of Mexico 12-11, 9-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9 for the title.

The 18-year-old from Wellington was recently named in the New Zealand men's team alongside Coll and Elijah Thomas.
