Doubles from Quinn Tupaea and Kyren Taumoefolau have helped take the Chiefs to a 42-14 Super Rugby Pacific beating of the NSW Waratahs and a jump up the points table..

Leading 23-7 at halftime, the Chiefs ran away with the game in the second half, outscoring the Aussie side six tries to two.

The loss continued the Waratahs poor results in Hamilton. They haven't won in the city since 2014.

The Waratahs threatened early, but the Chiefs forward power and attacking flair extinguished their hopes.

The Chiefs scored the first try of the night when Waratahs fullback Sid Harvey, a goalkicking hero in last week's 30-28 win over the Brumbies, was unable to clean up a probing Xavier Rie kick as winger Kyren Taumoefolau pounced to score.

A Josh Jacomb penalty extended the lead to 8-0, before the Waratahs had their only joy of the opening half when Harvey fielded a 20-metre pass from Max Jorgensen to cross in the left corner.

Two more strikes from hooker Samisoni Taukei'aho and centre Quinn Tupaea and another Jacomb penalty earned the Chiefs their commanding 18-point halftime lead.

Recording their fifth win of the season, the Johnno Gibbes' side are now third on the Super Rugby Pacific standings, behind the Hurricanes and Blues halfway through the season.

First-five Jacomb had an off night with the boot at FMG Stadium, missing three conversions in an otherwise seamless showing from the home side in Hamilton.
