All Whites downed by Poland in friendly

The All Whites have been beaten 1-0 by Poland in a friendly in Chorzow but were competitive in the majority of the game.


New Zealand had a number of chances during the game but were beaten by a side ranked 47 places higher than them.

All Whites Head CoachDarren Bazeley made six changes from the side that took on Australia last month.


Premier League star Chris Wood was on the bench to start only making the field in the final 10 minutes.


Ben Waine startied up front with Marko Stamenic returned from injury to start alongside Ryan Thomas in the midfield.


Poland left many of their front line players on the bench including legendary striker Robert Lewandowski who didn't take the field as they half a World Cup qualifying game next week.


One of the few big names starting for Poland was Piotr Zielinsk who scored in the 49th minute


Zielinski.evaded one tackle before connecting with a powerful shot into the crossbar and into the goal leaving Alex Paulsen no chance.


The All Whites created chances in both halves with Ben Waine having shots in the first half, while Sapreet Singh put a shot over the bar in the second half.


While New Zealand did create chances they will be disappointed they were unable to convert any of them.


Of late they have had four straight losses including two to Australia and now face Norway next week in Oslo.


Poland play a World Cup qualifying game against Lithuania on Monday while New Zealand play Norway in a friendly next Wednesday.
